The MoistureMeterEpiD has been a key addition to Oriflame’s instrumentation
The Delfin MoistureMeterEpiD has opened new possibilities for Oriflame to study hydration at deeper layers of skin, in addition to skin surface hydration. The MoistureMeterEpiD has provided Oriflame with new information for claims validation work and for studies related to skin care routines.

Oriflame’s Principal Research Project Lead Cyril Messaraa is very pleased with the unique technology of MoistureMeterEpiD: “The MoistureMeterEpiD has been a relevant addition to our portfolio of instrumentation, for a couple of reasons. The first one relates to its deeper measuring depth which has allowed to “freshen” up some of our claims in relation to hydration, during the evaluation of stand-alone products, but also cosmetic routines. Its technology enables to seamlessly differentiate products that works exclusively on the skin surface over products that improve hydration at deeper levels.”

Due to their full portability and ease-of-use, Delfin’s products have proved to be useful in many different study settings. Messaraa summarizes: “Thanks to the minimal training that it is required to handle the probe, coupled with its wireless capabilities, it has also proven pertinent as a tool for field studies.”
A publication by Oriflame about the skin care routines
Over the years, Oriflame has benefited from the use of Delfin instruments in their research, product formulation and efficacy testing. Oriflame’s scientific work in product development is backed up by scientific articles published on a regular basis.
The cosmetic industry commonly promotes the benefits of advanced skin care routines but there has been a lack of clinical evidence to support this practice. Messaraa et al. (2020) by Oriflame aimed to prove the clinical benefits of comprehensive skin care routine over simple routine.
The Delfin MoistureMeterEpiD was used to measure the skin’s deep hydration. The group with advanced skin care routine were using several skin care products each day whereas simple skin care group was limited to two products. After 4-weeks intervention there was a statistical difference in skin’s deep hydration values between the groups for the benefit of the advanced skin care group. Skin deep hydration measured by Delfin MoistureMeterEpiD increased by 25 % during the intervention. The advanced skin care routine was the only routine capable of improving the skin’s deep hydration.
